The Archbishop of Canterbury will be focusing his New Year’s Day message on one of the most pressing issues of our time – the need to fix social care.

“We are delighted that the Archbishop of Canterbury will be placing social care at the centre of his message for the New Year, recognising the value of caring both unpaid and paid. 

“In representing unpaid carers, we know all too well what a crucial and valuable role unpaid caring is, but how it can also become extremely challenging if there is insufficient support. Families should not have to face poverty, exhaustion, loneliness and strain on relationships as a result of caring for a disabled, older or ill relative or close friend.

“We’re pleased to have been working with the Archbishops’ Reimagining Care Commission, bringing carers’ lived experiences into the heart of evidence and solution building to advocate for changes which could strengthen our social care system and provide vital support for people who need care and their families. For unpaid carers, the millions of families who provide unpaid care up and down the country, in every town, village and community, that change cannot come too soon.”
