In today's Queen's Speech (14th October 2019) the government committed to bring forward proposals to "to reform adult social care in England, to ensure dignity in old age."

In response to the Queen's Speech, Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, said:

“With every day that passes, fewer older and disabled people are receiving the quality care they need from our social care system and an increasing number of family members are picking up the pieces.

“We urge the government to bring forward their proposals for social care reform at the earliest opportunity. They must include proper investment in the medium and longer term and a strategic plan for delivering quality services to adults with disabilities as well as those in old age.

“Practical and financial support for unpaid carers is equally essential and must be explicitly included in reform so that they can care for loved ones without putting their lives on hold.”
